Half- Marathon

My name is Giovenchy Cerisier better know as “Gio” and I was born and raised in Philadelhia Pa. My running journey started back in 2014, when I joined my high school cross country team to stay in shape for basketball and lacrosse, but I quickly fell in love with the sport itself. I went on to compete at Kutztown University, where I walked on to the track team as an 800m/miler. As a walk on i had to redshirt and just practice everyday with the mid distance crew. It was a good time to really learn about the sport and figure out if this is really what i wanted to do. Unfortunately in 2020 the Covid shutdown happen and that took away another season from me. So entering my junior year of college is when i really started competing and tried to figure out what distance i was good at. I tried many events before developing into a 5K and steeplechase runner. Graduating from Kutztown Univeristy i entered with a PB of 17:05 and left with a 15:24

I was blessed to gain a scholarship and continue running at the University of Tampa for my Grad year. I improved my 5k to 15:10, 8k to 25:50  and ran 9:29 in the 3000m steeplechase, and became a 3x school record holder. During my final collegiate season, I ran through an inguinal hernia, competing until my last race in April 2024 before undergoing surgery that fall. Now, healthy and stronger than ever, I’m focused on 5K, 10K, and half-marathon training. I recently made my half-marathon debut at the Philadelphia Distance Run (1:09) and can’t wait to keep chasing new goals.

Along the way, I earned my B.A. in Communication (Kutztown ’22) and M.A. in Professional Communication (Tampa ’24).

Coaching Philosophy's

Consistency is Key
Fueling and Nutrition is Huge
We all have different paths
Balance Faith and Belief

In the past 7 years that I have been running, consistency was the key to being successful. I found when I stayed injury free and was able to stack up the days, weeks, and months, that’s when i performed at my best.

You have to fuel your body properly. After every run or lift, especially hard workouts, you need to replace what you lose. Focus on carbs, protein, and electrolytes, and include key nutrients like vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, and iron (if needed). Proper fueling keeps you strong, recovered, and healthy.

I never saw myself as a runner until i got to college. Some kids know it by the time they enter the 4th grade that this is what they want to do. Build your own path and let the love of the sport come to you and don’t force it.

If you can add these 3 things to your everyday routine, not only will you be hard to beat but you will learn so much in self growth and self confidence, Not every race will be a PB and not every workout will be amazing. But having these 3 things in your life will help you know that you will eventually reap the benefits if you keep pushing forward.
